Shelter Custodian

The Shelter Custodian is a vital part of ensuring a clean and safe environment for our guests. Will be asked to upkeep the cleanliness of shelter bathrooms, showers, common areas, and light maintenance as needed. Reports directly to the Shelter Manager. 

Requirements: 

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Able to legally work in the US.
• Must be able to work in a team environment and independently.
• Must be able to climb stairs, lift 30lbs, and be standing for long periods of time.
• Communicate well verbally and in written form.
• Have some working knowledge of facility cleaning and maintenance.   

 Part-time, will include weekends.

Shelter Monitor

Shelter Monitors are vital in ensuring the safety of our guests and the outcome of a successful shelter season. Monitors report directly to the Shelter Manager. Duties include conducting Firewatch rounds at regular intervals, assisting Shelter Guests, submitting daily electronic reports, and working alongside volunteers.   

 Requirements: 

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Able to legally work in the US.
• Must be able to work in a team environment and independently.
• Must be able to climb stairs, lift 30lbs, and be standing for long periods of time.
• Communicate well verbally and in written form.
• Must be able to work in a high stress environment and learn de-escalation skills.
• Multi-task and prioritize assignments. 

 Part-time work will include nights and weekends.

Communcations Team

The Communications Team is vital to sharing the mission of BES with the rest of our community. Team members assist with updating and maintaining social media, BES website, various mailings, creating graphics and wordsmithing mailers. Each member contributes according to their strengths. Seeking team members comfortable working independently as well as a team environment. Team meetings are virtual and are scheduled as needed.  

This is a volunteer-based position.

Events and Fundraising Team

The Events & Fundraising Team facilitates the growth and the resources available to BES. Team members organize events, such as the annual Appreciation Picinic, and strategize future fundraising activities in line with BES’s mission. Each member contributes according to their strengths. Seeking team members comfortable working independently as well as a team environment. Team meetings are virtual and are scheduled as needed. 

This is a volunteer-based position.

Internships

BES welcomes students studying various majors in the social sciences or health sciences. Students must be enrolled in an accredited program and in their junior or senior year. Students will be challenged with service coordination of Shelter Service Providers, facilitating linkages with service providers, and data tracking of guest information.  

This is an unpaid position.

Requirements: 

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be able to work in a team environment and independently.
• Communicate well verbally and in written form.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to navigate computer search engines.
• Multi-task and prioritize assignments.
